
The Mu Nu chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. presents our annual Talent Hunt Showcase Competition to recognize, encourage, and provide a forum for exceptionally talented minority high school students in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Mu Nu chapter has hosted this Talent Hunt competition since 1972 at various public and private high schools throughout Montgomery County! Past winners have attended schools across the county, such as Blake, Magruder, Northwest, Einstein, Norwood, Seneca Valley, Wheaton, Kennedy, Good Counsel and Watkins Mill high schools, just to name a few. The Talent Hunt competition is one of our fraternity’s national community service projects, providing exposure, encouragement, and financial assistance to talented minority youth in performing and visual arts.
The competition will be held at Gaithersburg High School 101 Education BLVD, Gaithersburg, MD 20877 on Saturday March 28th, 2026 at 2:30 pm.
Competition Categories
- Musical: Instrumental Solo; classical, contemporary gospel, or jazz (5 printed copies of music score must be provided for each judge to analyze)
- Vocal: Vocal Solo; classical, contemporary, gospel, or jazz
- Dance: Interpretive Dance Solo; ballet, modern, jazz ,tap dance, Hip hop
- Drama: Dramatic Interpretation; monologue, poetry, spoken word, oration, Rap (5 printed copies of script should be provided for each judge to analyze)
- Visual Art: paintings and drawings, sculptures, or photography (3 to 5 pieces for judging)
The winners in each category will be awarded cash prizes from the Mu Nu chapter. Our top winners (Performing Arts, & Visual Arts) will represent Mu Nu chapter at our Second District area-wide Talent Hunt Competition, scheduled for Saturday May 02, 2026, in National Harbor, Maryland. All travel expenses are paid by the Mu Nu chapter. The Mu Nu chapter has a history of selecting outstanding talent to represent Montgomery County that have won various categories at the District Conference level! Our 2012 winner won the overall District competition, our 2013 winner came in 2nd place for dramatic presentation, our 2014 winner came in 2nd place in the dance category, our 2016 and 2017 visual arts winners came in 1st place, and our 2020 winner came in 1st place in the vocal category.
To be eligible for this competition, applicants must be a high school student in Montgomery County public, private, or parochial schools. Participants must provide any necessary personnel accompaniment or musical accompaniment in digital mp3 format. Performances are limited to four (4) minutes. Time limitations will be enforced, and all performances must be memorized. All Visual artist applicants must submit clear photos of their 3 to 5 art pieces to [email protected], by March 15th, 2026.
