The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated (Mu Nu Chapter) held its annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities (H.B.C.U.) Divine 9 Panel Discussion, for the Montgomery County Public Schools College Fair, on Friday, February 18, 2022.
The theme for the H.B.C.U. Divine 9 Panel Discussion, “Educating the Leaders of Tomorrow, focused on telling the narrative of how HBCUs, as institutions of higher learning, have played a significant role in developing future leaders. The panel discussion informed M.C.P.S. students and parents about the advantages of attending an H.B.C.U.
The panel discussion included three segments pertaining to HBCUs. The first segment focused on “the relevancy of an HBCU.” This segment allowed for panelists to discuss their beliefs on why HBCUs are still relevant in the twenty-first century. The second segment highlighted “the benefits of attending an H.B.C.U.” Panelists spoke to the audience about their personal experiences, academic and social, while attending their alma mater. The third and final segment looked at H.B.C.U. pride and what the phrase “H.B.C.U. for Life” means to H.B.C.U. alumni.
The H.B.C.U. panel included Ten members from the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Montgomery County, Maryland, who attended an H.B.C.U, and three members currently attending an HBCU. The panel discussion was led by Mu Nu Vice Basileus, Dr. Lorenzo R. Prillman (2013-Mu Nu). Mu Nu Chapter Basileus Bro. Walter Neighbors (2002-Mu Nu), Bro. Kai Bough (2018-Mu Nu), and newly initiated Bro. Zion Ledyard (2021-Epsilon Sigma) served as panelists for the H.B.C.U. Divine 9 Panel Discussion.
